What No-Gi means in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

No-gi means training and fighting without the kimono. With no collar and no sleeves to hold, grips are taken on the body and the rhythm changes: more speed, more exchanges, more attention to controlling positions. That is why no-gi clothing is made of three garments that have to stay in place in every situation: the rashguard, the fight shorts and the spats. They are the same garments used in grappling and in MMA.

Rashguard, fight shorts and spats: how they work together

The rashguard covers the torso and the arms, with long or short sleeves depending on the season and on habit. Kano fight shorts are built from multiple panels and without Velcro, a deliberate choice: once on, you do not feel them, with no pulling and no irritation. Spats are worn under the shorts or on their own and complete the coverage of the legs. All three share the same shaped-panel construction and the same fabrics, selected and tested at length, hypoallergenic, which keep their characteristics wash after wash.

How to choose the size of Kano No-Gi garments

Rashguards and spats are meant to fit close: that is how they work. For fight shorts there is a rule that may seem counter-intuitive: do not size up for comfort. Choose the size in which the waistband pulls slightly, because the shorts must stay up on their own and not thanks to the drawstring. On the legs they look slimmer than you expect, but once on you do not feel them. If in doubt between two sizes, take the smaller one. The measurements of every garment are in the Kano size guide.

Kano No-Gi in competition: the belt rank rashguards

For competitions the Competition collection offers belt rank rashguards in the colours of the belts: white, blue, purple, brown and black for adults, and the youth belt colours for kids. They are made following the IBJJF guidelines: the check takes place at the event, on the garment as worn, and approval rests with the officials.
